Snapshots
I read an interesting article about using digital cameras in the classroom for more than just social networking. The article reported that students are using digital cameras for all areas of instruction. One example given was using digital cameras for a vocabulary lesson rather than having the students write down the word and definition. I currently use a camera in my classroom, but I am usually the one taking the pictures. I was wondering if any of you use a camera in your classroom and if so, do you have any interesting or unique applications for doing so? Have your students reacted appropriately using this technology?

We do have cameras available for student use in our school. There is also at least one digital camera assigned to each grade level.
I have had students use the cameras in math to take pictures of geometry examples in the real world.
Students have also used the cameras to take pictures of nature, still objects, etc. to then write short stories or poetry about.
Before students use the cameras - or any technology - we have a class discussion about appropriateness, rules, etc.

I use digital cameras and use the computer to print and things, but I have never used it in a lesson sounds interesting
The neatest use I've seen in my teaching experience was a teacher in WVA (Bane McCracken - he was the national PE teacher of the year in 97 or 98) used a camera and video to show kids visual feedback as they participated in activities. This allowed them to evaluate themselves in a physical skill development setting. The lesson I observed was on a Mt. Biking unit.
I have used digital photography in several lessons, but just like you, I have always been the one taking the pictures. Maybe I will try handing it over some this year...great topic!
I have never used a camera in my class. Like Jeannie, I have taken pictures and have down loaded the image into a word document. I had never thought about using a camera in the class or for the class BUT maybe I can find some good uses for a camera.
